Tesla Model X Launched With Bioweapon Defense Mode; World's First All-Electric SUV For $132,000

Touted as the world's first all-electric SUV with Bioweapon Defense feature, the Tesla Model X was recently launched with a staggering price tag of $132,000.

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk introduced their latest electric supercar on Tuesday. It's an SUV that can speedily accelerate like a sports car. The new vehicle has a larger trunk space compared to others.

Despite the pretty steep price, the Tesla Model X has features that make up for its very expensive cost. Musk said that the car has significantly better crash safety features than their competitors.

For starters, Musk said that their electric SUV has several high-tech software and sensors that allow it to detect potential crashes. If the car determines that a crash is imminent, brakes are automatically applied with or without the input of the driver.

Another unique selling proposition that was pitched to buyers was the "bioweapon defense mode." The Tesla Model X SUV can prevent harmful and potentially lethal viruses and bacteria from entering its cabin, according to Vox.

If the driver wants to look cool driving an SUV, then Tesla's new car would be a good choice. Instead of the traditional doors, the electric vehicle has falcon-wing doors that swing upward.

To prevent accidentally scratching the door to other surfaces such as the ceiling, the Tesla Model X SUV has complex sensors on each door and another one on the roof. The car automatically detects the space needed to swing upward without hitting obstacles, according to Wired.

In terms of range, the new electric SUV can go up to 250 miles on a single charge. Speed isn't a problem as the top speed is limited to 155 mph. The Model X P90D, which costs $10,000 more, has a "Ludicrous Mode" that allows it to reach 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.

What about the interesting bioweapon defense mode? In a push of a button, the Tesla Model X SUV can create positive pressure inside to keep possibly dangerous particles from entering. However, the so-called bioweapon filter might not work on all viruses. Some bacteria and lethal airborne viruses are smaller than the standard HEPA filters, according to Gizmodo

Low-budget buyers will have to wait for Musk to release the much cheaper $35,000 Model E a few years from now. The new electric SUV is marketed for those who can afford to drive luxuriously leaving as little of negative environmental impact as possible.

The Tesla Model X SUV is expensive, but the company is certain that it will still have buyers. For $132,000, the advanced features of the electricity-powered car is believed to be worth it.
