Chevrolet will be bringing the Android Auto tech feature for its MyLink infotainment system in a big software update on March 2016.
Android Auto is Google's dashboard replacement that is linked with the Android mobile operating system. It features several music streaming apps and, of course, the beloved Google Maps navigation feature that the user can use while driving.
Google has focused on lessening the distracting visuals so that the user can drive safely on the road. It will rely heavily on voice commands along with Google Now integration.
To use Android Auto, the Chevrolet owners must have a compatible Android smartphone. Also, a representative from the car company told CNET that the car owners will have to manually get the update from their Chevrolet dealer.
Chevrolet vehicle owners won't have to worry about doing the update process themselves. The dealer will deal with the upgrade. It also eliminates any possible problem that the user might encounter in their homes while upgrading.
All Chevy vehicles that have both 7- and 8-inch MyLink displays will still receive Android Auto, according to Engadget. This means that an Android user does not need to buy any of the car manufacturer's newer and more expensive models to experience the update.
Chevrolet car owners will just need an Android Lollipop 5.0 smartphone as the version supports the Android Auto software. It's now known whether the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version will be able to support Android Auto as well.
However, Android M will most likely support Android Auto considering that the update will still come next year and Google is slated to launch the Marshmallow version by the end of September.
Android Auto will be coming to the following Chevrolet cars, according to Android Headlines: Suburban, Tahoe, Colorado, Corvette Convertible, Corvette, Volt, Impala, Silverado HD, Silverado, Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Spark, Malibu and Cruze.
Chevrolet's update for the Android Auto will be coming in March 2016. Apps that the driver would like to use would need to be downloaded on the phone.
