Smartwatch critics praise Asus Zenwatch 2's long battery life which can last for more than two days on standby mode. The smartwatch has already hit Google Play Store and is currently priced at $150.
Asus released its second-generation smartwatch in the form of the Zenwatch 2. The smartwatch's most notable feature lies in its long battery life, to the surprise of many critics as per Master Herald's report. Asus successfully cut down the battery size to fit inside the watch without losing too much power.
The Asus Zenwatch 2 comes in two variants: a small iteration with 300 mAh battery and a bigger version with 400 mAh battery. The smaller variant can last up to 57 hours in ambient mode while the larger iteration can hold up to 56 hours in the same mode.
Asus Zenwatch 2 can be paired with an accessory to further extend its battery life span. ChargeBack is a 155 mAh clip-on magnetic charger that serves as back up battery source in case of emergencies. The accessory fills the watch's battery up to 50 percent in only 36 minutes of charging time.
While Asus Zenwatch 2 has its positive features, there are also negative reviews and comments about it. Gizmodo did a review of the smartwatch and listed some problems the reviewer encountered with the watch.
According to the review, Asus Zenwatch 2 cannot effectively distinguish a deliberate tap or touch from an accidental one. It changes faces or reacts even when the user just accidentally brushes it against a railing. The reviewer constantly needed to tap the watch in order to get the usual watch face to show up again.
Another reported problem with Asus Zenwatch 2 is the difficulty to complete a certain task using the watch compared to simply using a phone. Just sending an emoji to a friend could take many taps on the watch's screen, making it more practical to just send it using the phone.
Still, the review stated that Asus Zenwatch 2 is a good contender in the wearable tech market. It offers customers good design and performance in an affordable price. As per Android Authority's report, the watch carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, 4GB internal storage, and 0.5MB RAM. The larger variant measures 45.2 x 37.2 x 10.5 mm with 280x280 resolution while the smaller model's dimensions are 49.6 x 40.7 x 9.5 mm with 320x320 resolution.
Asus Zenwatch 2 is currently on Google Play Store at $149.99. Compared to smartwatches like Moto 360, the Asus Zenwatch 2 is a budget smartwatch that brings great value for money.
