Samsung Company is facing an accusation about its television's energy efficiency test result. The company's product testing reveals lower energy consumption compared to the independent testing of European Union-funded research group ComplianTV which reveals higher energy consumption. The company denies the allegation of test cheating.
Geek mentioned that Samsung seems to adjust its TV's settings to be able to get a result of low energy consumption upon product testing. The report added that the TVs' motion lighting feature is apparently adjusted depending on the amount of action happening on the screen like fast action scene or reading the news. Such allegation comes from European Union-funded research group which did independent test on the product.
Related report noted that the official result from its product test is designed for model average use. The company denies such claim and has no answer to the discrepancy of results so far, according to Geek. ComplianTV said in the report, "Samsung is meeting the letter of the law but not the spirit of the law." It means that Samsung may face some charges when investigation proves that the company failed to comply with standards and falsely revealed its product's energy consumption.
The Guardian noted Samsung's statement, "The content used for testing energy consumption has been designed by the international electro-technical commission to best model actual average picture level internationally." The company added that the brightness setting is not activated during compliance test. Nonetheless, ComplianTV submitted and presented the result of its study in the Royal Society meeting in London on September 29.
On the other hand, Myce noted that various independent groups such as Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States render power consumption tests to TV products and find that there are methods of TV manufacturers on how to lower its products' energy use.
At the moment Samsung has no other official statement regarding the issue. European Union-funded research group ComplianTV is also on the process of completing its investigation regarding the issue.
