HTC will be among the first manufacturers to release a smartphone with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company announced which devices will receive Android M along with Sense 7 UI update.
After the new Nexus phones launched, HTC made a statement on Twitter regarding future Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates on its devices. A report by Christian Post states that HTC will be one of the first manufacturers to launch a phone carrying Android M. The company will reportedly make the announcement of Android M updates on October 20.
HTC's Twitter post said: ""We're roasting marshmallows this fall! We'll begin our Android 6.0 rollout to devices before the end of the year." As per a report by Android Geeks, HTC President Jason Mackenzie said that the HTC One M8 and One M9 will be updated to Android M before 2015 ends.
Other HTC devices set to receive Android M update include HTC One M9+, One E9+, One E9, One ME, One E8, One M8 EYE, Butterfly 3, Desire 826, Desire 820, and Desire 816. These devices will also get a Sense 7 UI upgrade.
Firmware upgrades could take a long time to roll out after an announcement is made. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) also differs by location, network provider, and device manufacturer. HTC will likely push updates in stages to its One M8 and One M9 devices.
Other devices are also set to receive Android M according to India Today's report. The new Nexus devices will come pre-installed with Android M while earlier models like Asus Nexus 7, HTC Nexus 9, Motorola Nexus 6, and LG Nexus 5 are expected to receive the update beginning October 5.
Meanwhile, Motorola will roll out Android M to its devices such as the Moto X Style and Moto X Play as quickly as possible. Samsung also announced that its Galaxy models like the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus will also get Android M.
