NVIDIA has recently released the SHIELD Software Upgrade 2.0 update for both of its SHIELD Android TV and SHIELD Gaming devices. The update brings several changes and improvements.
One of the most significant changes the update brings is it allows the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV console to run the company's GeForce NOW. The game streaming service is for players who don't want to go to all the hassle of installing video games on their computers.
Another highlight of the SHIELD Software Upgrade 2.0 is it gives NVIDIA SHIELD owners the capability to stream more high graphics games such as the recently released "The WItcher 3: Wild Hunt," according to Android Community.
The NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV handles the streaming and 4K resolution well because of its mighty specs under the hood. Powering the set-top box is the Tegra X1 SoC coupled with an AMD octa-core configuration. It features four low-power A53 and four high-powered A57 CPUs.
Of course, it wouldn't be complete without its connectivity ports. The device has an HDMI 2.0 port, according to Euro Gamer. It also features full support for HDCP 2.2 which makes it an ideal 4K streamer. In addition, it also supports a 60Hz refresh rate for able monitors even at 4K resolution.
Going to the SHIELD gaming devices, the SHIELD Software Upgrade 2.0 now allows rendering of some games and apps in UHD such as Kosmik Revenge, Beach Buggy Racing, Riptide GP 2 and a whole lot of others.
NVIDIA's new update is based on the fairly recent Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, which has just started to roll out for some phones. There is no update for the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow version yet.
In addition, the SHIELD Software Upgrade 2.0 also improves the gaming devices' capability to pay Blu Ray video files. The update also fixes audio latency issues, according to Bidness ETC.
Users can download the update manually on the official website from NVIDIA. However, the update is already available in the devices via the system update feature.
NVIDIA has improved its set-top box and portable gaming devices with the new SHIELD Software Upgrade 2.0. The new GeForce NOW capability is a great addition to the SHIELD Android TV.
