According to Collider, showrunner Steven Moffat was asked about a possible crossover with "Doctor Who" starring Peter Capaldi and how it could affect the fourth season of "Sherlock". He responded "That's a question that I get asked so often, and I can't keep answering it. It's all right for 'Doctor Who'. That's fine. But it would change Sherlock's life, if he met the doctor and knew that time travel was possible."
Moffat also confirmed that 'Sherlock' is not at all cancelled, as reported on Youth Health Mag. He also shared that the production for the fourth season will begin after the show's Christmas special this December. On the other hand, filming will begin April next year which suggests a possibility that the TV series might be released anytime in 2017.
In addition to that, the showrunner also shared some details about the pushback in production, which is due to scheduling conflicts, as mentioned on Movie Pilot. As for now, the only information given is that filming will officially start around April 2016 and as of this time, no definitive air date has been finalized just yet. But if they continue to follow the tradition of releasing new seasons every New Year, then there's a high probability that the next season will not be shown until 2017.
