'Doctor Strange' will focus on the superhero's unique origins according to producer Kevin Feige. The story may also leave a massive impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Rachel McAdams is said to play a major role in the upcoming adaptation.
According to an article by Moviepilot, the planned installment in the MCU could be one of the most exciting and unusual additions in Phase Three. Marvel Studios' executive Kevin Feige admitted that 'Doctor Strange' will focus on the titular superhero's origin story despite the idea considered as passé and unoriginal.
Feige then defended their decision and explained, "Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn't we do that? That was sort of always the plan. How you tell that origin, perhaps there are ways to twist it or play with that, but for the most part, it's a gift when the comics have something with such clarity of story and of character. That doesn't always happen in the comics, and when it does, you use it." The new film seeks to explore the mysterious and supernatural side of the MCU.
The second installment of Phase Three will delve deeper into the magical realm of superheroes such as the Quantum realm introduced in 'Ant-Man', according to IGN. Feige disclosed that Rachel McAdams, the latest actress to join the cast, will star in an important role but didn't state who she would be specifically. He explained that her character would "represent a certain point of view of the worlds that we experience in the movie."
An article by Cinema Blend suggested that McAdams would most likely portray Clea, Doctor Strange's love interest as well as disciple in the comic books. However, it may also be possible for her to play other notable female characters and love interests such as Victoria Bentley or Morgana Blessing.
'Doctor Strange' is scheduled for a cinematic release on November 4, 2016. It is directed by Scott Derrickson and its screenplay adapted for the big-screen by writers Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Its story centers on a neurosurgeon-turned-superhero trained by the mystical Ancient One to become Earth's greatest protector.
