In the second quarter of 2013, there were twenty one initial public offers that were backed by venture capitalist firms. This was double the volume and the amount registered as against the first quarter of this year. These facts were according to an Exit Poll report conducted by Thomson Reuters in cooperation with the National Venture Capital Association.
The survey conducted also found that the second quarter was a significant growth compared to the first quarter. Back then, there was only eight companies that were backed by venture capital firms that went public, raising US$717 million in the process.
Currently, a total of twenty nine companies backed by venture capital firms have conducted their IPOs. The total amount raised reached US$2.9 billion.
According to NVCA President Mark Heesen, "We have been predicting an IPO pickup in the second half of 2013 and it appears as if this momentum has begun, driven by strong biotechnology offerings."
