Android 6.0 Marshmallow is about to roll out on OnePlus One devices. The new software version is based on CyanogenMod 12.1 Kernel, which is available through AOSP ROM. As such, there are published reports regarding the steps and cautions on how to perform the new OS update.
Tech Times mentioned that prior to the software update, OnePlus One users should root their device and unlock its bootloader. Also, USB drivers on the computer must be updated and compatible with OnePlus One. The report also laid down other steps and precautionary measures before performing the Android software update. An example is that the USB Debugging mode must be enabled. This is found by going to Settings, then Developer options in Android 5.0 or late versions and Settings, then Application, and Development in Android 2.3 or earlier, respectively. After which, users must make a backup via custom recovery tool.
Most importantly, Tech Times said that the device subjected to update should have enough battery and a stable internet connection for successful download. Related reports also listed ten steps on how to complete Android 6.0 Marshmallow. To ensure that the update is successful, users can go to Settings, and then About, and check the firmware version.
On one hand, Android Authority said that Android update is such a complex process to perform, since it involves the chipmakers, device makers, and carriers to work together. In this regard, the new OS update is great news for OnePlus One users who'll receive it in the following months. Though, the update is not just with the aforementioned device because Google will also roll out Android 6.0 to selected Samsung, LG, Nexus, Sony, Motorola, HTC, ZTE, and Huawei very soon.
Google did not specify on when OnePlus One devices will receive the notification for the update. Android users will have to wait for the OTA or manual update to complete the update.
