Microsoft Windows 10 users have spent a month in waiting for the company to release a new version of its operating system for mobile. It finally came out last week, but there was a hitch to it.
PC World records that Windows 10 Mobile build 10549 is finally released, but it can only be installed on a phone running on Windows Phone 8.1.
After the development team of Microsoft discovered that updating from build 10536 opens up to a black screen, Microsoft Vice President Gabe Aul made the decision to make 10549 available for those willing to go through the grind of downgrading then upgrading again.
This is the second launch bug experienced by Insiders according to Supersite for Windows. The 10136 from June, also only available to Windows Phone 8.1 users, required Insiders to reset it if they wanted to test it.
As normal as it is to have bugs and required fixes to an update fresh out of the oven, major bugs can be a major headache not just for users, but for the company as well, as it would cost more resources and constant rescheduling of company calendar to address the bugs.
Very recently, WM Poweruser shared that Microsoft started rolling out Insider Fast configuration update, that will help Microsoft target devices in correct ring for delivering updates. To get the latest update, Insiders can head over to Settings > Update & Security > Phone Update and Check for Updates to download and install the latest update.
When users have their phone finally running, they can bring it direct to Windows Storrd to download the Windows Insider app, register the phone for the Insider Fast Ring, reboot and then grab the 10549 update released today.
