Director James Gunn is currently in Atlanta to work on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2. During his 50-minute Q & A event on Facebook, he revealed that tying the franchise to the Avengers is currently not a major concern for him. Meanwhile, Vin Diesel who is expected to return to voice Groot recently revealed his personal request to Gunn concerning his character.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn divulged that a new character will be added in the MCU. However, without revealing too much further, he noted the new character will not be human and the film will only have Star Lord as the sole Earthling in the film.
But when asked about a potential team up between the Guardians and the Avengers, Gunn said that he finds no interest in mashing up the characters. He further noted that his interest is to tell stories that are deeper and better about the characters that are already known.
Furthermore as reported by Collider, Gunn also stated that tying the film with the Infinity Wars is not among his priorities as of now, and said that he is more concerned with the forthcoming film. "Everything's going to be different in the 'Infinity Wars.' I'm a lot more concerned with 'Vol. 2' than I am with 'Infinity Wars.' The way the movie ['Vol. 2'] is structured and made - it really is a story unto itself. It's not about leading up to anything else. It's about the Guardians and their lives", Gunn said.
Meanwhile, as reported by Cinemablend, Vin Diesel recently revealed that he personally made a request to Gunn about making a giant version of his character, and see how the character would appear when surrounded by large area crowded with trees such as New York's Central Park.
"I'd love to throw him into a forest and see how much mass that he consumes after devouring all the trees. Imagine throwing him into Central Park in New York City. I just want to see Giant Groot", Diesel revealed. Although it is not yet certain if Diesel's request will make to the film, a little version of the Groot could be featured in the sequel after his rebirth in the previous film.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is written and directed by James Gunn, and will feature the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Diesel and Bradley Cooper as the voices of Groot and Rocket Raccoon respectively. It is set to hit theaters in May 05, 2017.
