With the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, many smartphone manufacturers have been preparing for the upgrade. Samsung and Motorola are two of the smartphone companies who will bring the update to their handsets, specifically the Galaxy S6 and Moto X, before the year ends.
According to Neurogadget, the Samsung Galaxy S6 will receive the Android M before the end of 2015 and other Samsung devices will also obtain the same upgrade in early 2016. The Korean tech giant has also been busy releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its devices. So, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update might take a little longer than expected, considering that Android Lollipop is prioritized to bring solution to the Stagefright vulnerability.
Meanwhile, the Moto X 2015, also known as the Moto X Pure Edition, is currently on testing phase for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto X is expected to roll out sometime in November or December 2015.
Tech Times stated on its article that the Moto X is under the soak test. This procedure refers to a private firmware beta test that occurs before the official firmware rollout. Motorola will basically invite users from its support forums to participate in such soak tests and provide feedback, but the company likes to keep the procedure on private. The roll out of the software will naturally happen a few weeks after the full soak test.
IBTimes said on its report that upon the upgrade of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Moto X both handsets will obtain the stand-out feature of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This includes an improved battery and power usage that is called "Doze". It basically improves the handset's battery stand-by time, and by using the motion detectors, the latest version will basically identify an idle device for a long period of time.
It's worth noting that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update arrived late in some of Samsung and Motorola's handsets, disappointing most of its customers. Hopefully, the rest of the companies' units will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow earlier than last year's upgrade.
