'Tarzan' Reboot may be in jeopardy as director David Yates has moved on to film J.K. Rowling's upcoming live-action adaptation of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. Warner Bros. big-budget project is speculated to be in danger of not coming into completion as it is stuck in production and post-processing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is looking to redeem itself with its upcoming big-budget remake of the iconic jungle man returning to his untamed home after one of its films, 'Pan, flopped significantly at the box office. 'Pan', the 3D fantasy adventure film intended as an origin story between Peter Pan and Captain Hook, received generally negative reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office. Insiders for the 'Tarzan' reboot are concerned that the new film will not come into completion in time for its scheduled debut in 2016 since it already has a budget of around $180 million.
The cause of concern stems from director David Yates' double-booked schedule with the upcoming live-action adaptation of J.K. Rowling's spin-off novel 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' starring Eddie Redmayne. According to MovieWeb, Yates has already moved on to work on Rowling's film despite having only eight and a half months left for the scheduled release of 'Tarzan'.
One Warner Bros. executive admitted, "While it's somewhat unusual, we are extremely comfortable with the production timelines, which were set in advance, and have total confidence in the skill of David Yates - who is a four-time Harry Potter director - to deliver both of these pictures."
However, another insider revealed that since 'Tarzan Reboot' is jam-packed with special effects, it may not get the full attention it needs and therefore cause some major delay in production. It was stated that 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' was a higher priority for the studios, and perhaps even the director.
According to The Cheat Sheet, the reboot already has an ensemble cast lined up. Alexander Skarsgard is playing John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke a.k.a. Tarzan with Margot Robbie as his wife Jane Porter. Christoph Waltz is Captain Rom while Samuel L. Jackson is George Washington Williams.
The film is a retelling of the story of Tarzan who returns to the jungles after living a civilized life in London with his wife Jane. John Clayton III, Tarzan's gentrified alter-ego, is invited in Chicago to serve as a trade emissary of the Parliament but is unaware that he is only a puppet for the greedy Captain Rom.
'Tarzan' Reboot is an upcoming action-adventure film directed by David Yates. It is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2016. The fictional character first appeared in the novel 'Tarzan of the Apes' published in 1912 and was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
