AT&T made an unintentional guffaw with a recent YouTube presentation where they inadvertently hinted at LG's upcoming smartphone, the LG G Vista 2. The alleged new smartphone will sport a 5.7-inch Full HD screen and will be in the mid-phone range. Aside from this, the LG G Vista 2 will also have its own stylus to boot. It is speculated likewise that AT&T might be the exclusive carrier of the new LG smartphone.
This misculated move could be interpreted as a response to a number of smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Apple to consider LG a serious competitor in the mid-range phone category. Product release date and pricing, however, remain undisclosed.
According to Anu Passary of Tech Times, the LG G Vista 2 smartphone targets budget-conscious buyers who are on the lookout for a capable handset with a large display screen and a stylus. Passary also made mention of the alleged hint video stating that the LG G Vista 2 is "built for power and performance, with an all-new stylus and enhanced camera at a revolutionary value". It is still unclear, though, what "revolutionary" indicated.
Aside from a bigger form factor and additional stylus, the LG G Vista 2 will likewise receive a processor upgrade. Passary indicated that the new smartphone will have an octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC. Its predecessor LG G Vista, on the other hand, only had a Snapdragon 400 under its chassis.
And topping off the new smartphone specs will be 2 GB on-board RAM with 16 GB on-board storage which, as a standard, is expandable via microSD card. Product release and pricing is yet undisclosed, however, Passary concluded.
Still more about the accidental hinting at LG G Vista 2, the uncalled for move from AT&T might have been committed for a good reason. As Scott Webster of CNet explains, "LG has not seen much success in the mid-range arena of smartphones. And introducing a new model would help cement its position in an area that is less competitive than the super high-end of the LG-V10".
Webster also took into account that the LG G Vista, launched around 2014, was a dismal performer. And the alleged hint video about LG G Vista 2 is looking to have itself built on its predecessor's foundation with innovative twists thrown in for good measure.
And regarding the stylus, Webster expressed optimism about this add-on catching up on popularity. Apple and Microsoft have already made this digital pencil part of their current tablet iterations with Samsung being the forerunner via their Galaxy Note series. Users will eventually accept this and be drawn to using it, Webster concluded.
Finally, AT&T exclusivity to LG G Vista 2 might happen though still under speculation. Jon Fingas of Engadget hints about this by writing, "AT&T hasn't yet said when the G Vista 2 ships or how much it'll cost you". Fingas continues by stating, "Talk of a revolutionary price hints that you won't be paying much of a premium over the phone's predecessor."
It is interesting to note that AT&T gained exclusivity to LG G Vista back in 2014 after the latter having let go of Verizon as its official carrier.
The latest leak from AT&T regarding the new LG G Vista 2 comes in at a time when major players are launching innovative iterations of their brand smartphones. If LG plays it smart this time, then the mid-range arena would have its very own formidable and competitive budget smartphone to market. And this, in turn, would entice phone buyers to take LG G Vista 2 seriously and render it an excellent buy.
