The cast roster for Power Rangers is gradually being filled in as 'Monster Hunt' actor Ludy Lin is recently announced to play as Black Ranger. New details about the film also suggest that Rita Repulsa might not be the main villain in the upcoming iteration.
As reported by Variety, Ludy Lin is the latest addition to the film's cast, and he is set to star alongside Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery who will play as Pink Ranger and Red Ranger respectively. Lionsgate made the announcement through their Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Moreover, /Film reportd that a different villain is to be expected in the Power Rangers movie. Although it was previously reported that the film will begin with a major action sequence, new claims suggest that Rita Repulsa will not be the biggest threat since the film will be set after the events of Power Rangers: Dino Charge which subsequently entails that Repulsa and Lord Zedd will have been defeated using Zordon's Z-wave.
However, new reports suggest that Scorpina, one of Repulsa's minions, will take over and will aim to destroy the Morphin Grid. The Rangers will have to stop her evil plans as the device is their source of power, and acts as their connection to previous and future Power Rangers.
While the official plot synopsis has not been revealed yet, director Dean Israelite previously teased about the script during his talk with IGN and described it in his own words as a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way.
When further asked about the film's tone, Israelite revealed that the upcoming feature will be playful, edgy, and contemporary."it needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny. But like Project Almanac, I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it", Israelite said.
Israelite is set to direct the forthcoming Power Rangers Movie. It is written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, and will be produced by Brian Casentini, Haim Saban, and Allison Shearmur. It is currently slated to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.
