While the wait continues for new development on James Cameron's Avatar 2, the director recently revealed that a new comic book series will be released that will tell more about the mythology and history of the franchise.
As reported by International Business Times, Cameron revealed during the recent comic con that he will be working with Dark House Comics for the franchise's comic book. According to Cameron, the comic book will be set before, during, and after the events of the first movie.
Aside from the Avatar, Cameron has also worked with Dark House Comics for his previous films 'Aliens' and 'The Abyss". While details for Avatar 2 are currently scarce, Master Herald wrote that the comic book will serve as the franchise fans' thirst quencher as the second film moves toward its 2017 release.
The film's plot is currently under wraps, although Cameron previously revealed that filming for the second, third, and fourth film will be done simultaneously. Discussing about the setting, Cameron also said that although the creative team took time in developing a technology that will enable them to film underwater scenes, the sequel will not be entirely set in Pandora's ocean ecosystem.
A photo was also released previously by a Twitter user claiming to be producer Jon Landau which showed what was supposedly a sketch of a Na'vi in the sequel. However, IGN noted that the account and the photo were eventually confirmed to be fraudulent and Laundau has in fact been working to have the account deleted. The phony account is currently suspended in the abovementioned social media platform.
Cameron is expected to direct Avatar 2 which he also wrote with Josh Friedman. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are expected to reprise roles as Neytiri and Jake Sully, respectively, while Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang were also reported to return even though their characters had supposedly died in the first movie. Avatar 2 is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2017.
