Pacific Rim 2 may still be in pre-production but new claims about the film already suggest that director Guillermo Del Toro is currently eyeing on having Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams to join the cast. Del Toro also revealed that new characters are to be expected in the sequel.
As reported by Franchise Herald, Williams could be the next addition to the cast of the sci-fi action franchise as Del Toro has been impressed with the actress' performance and even tweeted about how 'remarkable' she is. New reports suggest that the actress and Del Toro have already met previously, although if she will eventually included in the cast remains to be seen.
Moreover, Del Toro also revealed details about Pacific Rim 2 and mentioned about a mix of old and new characters in the sequel. "Newt, Mako, Charlie [Raleigh]. I mean, I just love them all. And there are new characters and old characters, a mixture in the new one, but I love returning to that world", Del Toro said.
Furthermore, as reported by Scified, Del Toro also previously revealed that the fate of Pacific RIm 2 now depends on whether the studio will give it the green light. "We've finished the screenplay, and we did a new budget that took us on several scouts to different countries until we found exactly what we needed to build this or that. Then the people that are way above my pay grade decide if they'll do the movie or not. It's not my decision", he said.
The film was recently taken out from its previous August 2017 schedule, however, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary and Universal reassured fans that they are still committed to the project, but had to push it for a later date so the creative team can continue to develop more on the film.
As soon as the project gets a greenlight, Del Toro is expected to direct Pacific Rim 2. Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam are also heavily speculated to return for the sequel. More details about the film will be delivered as they are announced.
