While Mirror's Edge Catalyst is said to be released on Feb. 23, the story of the game is still a bit confusing. Developers DICE recently explained that the game will be a rebirth and it will use the technology of Frostbite Engine.
iDigitalTimes had an interview with James Slavin, Audio Director on Mirror's Edge Catalyst, after a recent demo in New York. When asked if the game will be a sequel, re-imagining, or a reboot, he said that it would be a "Rebirth."
"We share Faith's origin story," Slavin said. When pressed to talk further about the upcoming game, Slavin did not give out more details but he did promise that the players would be playing something he's really excited for.
"It's all different, it's all new," Slavin added. He also shared that the major difference of Mirror's Edge Catalyst from the original one is the application of the Frostbite Engine. "[Frostbite] has allowed us to enhance the aspects that we want to enhance. Movement is more fluid, the city is bigger. Now we have room to tell this great story." This will help create a world that appears more alive as it lets the players immerse in the world even more.
Weapons are also said to be eliminated in this game. While players were previously rewarded for ending the game without using their gun, the players now don't even have the option of having a gun.
Venture Beat reported that the role of the character on Mirror's Edge Catalyst will usually avoids combat and rarely uses guns. She prefers to use her fists when whenever physical force is needed.
The Art of Mirror's Edge Catalyst Book will be issued by Dark Horse along with the game's release, said Attack Of The Fanboy. The artbook was said to be jam-packed with exclusive commentary and insight straight from the game creators.
For some who don't expect much from the upcoming game, they're surprised to know that the Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be a 'Rebirth.' With the use of Frostbite Engine, the game may even exceed some gamer's expectations.
