‘Legend of Zelda’ Wii U 2016 release: Speculations for delay and developers’ statement

By

The developers have already announced the delay of the action-adventure game, Legend of Zelda for WiiU. With such delay, fans have been speculating on either it has been planned to be released on the 30th Anniversary of Zelda's first game, or along the release of Nintendo's NX. The developers, however, finally spoke to the gaming community regarding the matter.

During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015, Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Amie stated that they are delaying the release date of the 19th installment of the Legend of Zelda franchise to 2016. Christian Today said that Nintendo has lots of plans to celebrate the game's new milestone. With such statement, speculations among fans have circulated as to what that milestone could be.

Game Producer Eiji Aonuma stated that there is going be an "open world" for The Legend of Zelda Wii U. He added that the developers have been taking in fan feedbacks from the open world of the Zelda Skyward Sword. Huewire News reported that developers take some elements into consideration and think on how to implement them in a surprising way. Aonuma added that the team is working their hardest for the fans to hold on to the game's extended development. But with the Nintendo releasing a new console tagged as NX, fans have speculated that they might be delaying the release of the Wii U exclusive game to be available for NX as well.

Another speculation tells that the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda's first game in 2016 might be the reason for delay, as the 19th installment coincides with it. In an interview, Aonuma stated: "It is not impossible that there may be a 30th anniversary concert next year. However, as we are trying to complete the new Zelda as fast as possible, that is all that is on our minds. That being said, we hope something will take form for the 30th anniversary. It is especially important to a producer of the series, so I hope to give something everyone can look forward to next year." Crossmap added that the game looks impressive from screenshots and demo that have been surfaced earlier, which may render the delay to be worthy.

Whether the reason would be the 30th Anniversary of Zelda's first game or the release of Nintendo's NX, The Legend of Zelda Wii U shall have its release by 2016. As the developers stated, they have been trying their best for the sooner release of the game.
