‘Hellboy 3’ Not Happening Due to Financial Risks? Director Guillermo del Toro and actor Ron Perlman Aant to Finish Trilogy

'Hellboy 3' is a planned superhero film based on the titular character of the same name created by Mike Magnolia. Although director Guillermo del Toro and leading man Ron Perlman want to finish the "trilogy", it may not happen due to predicted financial risks.

According to WhatCulture, del Toro told Josh Horowitz of the 'Happy, Sad, Confused' podcast that taking on a third installment for the 'Hellboy' franchise would involve too much financial risk. Although both he and leading man Ron Perlman are ready to complete the trilogy, studios would still have the last say. It seems that nobody is jumping at the opportunity to fund the next movie as of the present.

The 51-year old Mexican filmmaker admitted that he may not be making 'Hellboy 3' anytime soon, according to Outer Places. He said, "It's certainly not my next movie... With the push, I feel compelled to do something small and weird, because I need a breather and a little bit more madness in my life." However, he did offer some good news that he is pushing through with a 'Pacific Rim' sequel announcing that they are ready to deliver a budget as well as a new draft of the screenplay.

He also admitted to Horowitz that his top three cinematic works are 2006's 'Pan's Labyrinth', 2001's 'Devil's Backbone' and his recently released project 'Crimson Peak' with stars Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska. He is currently attached as Executive Producer for the upcoming films 'Rings' and 'Kung Fu Panda 3'.

Ron Perlman, who played the titular demon Hellboy in 2004's 'Hellboy' and its 2008 sequel 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army', admitted on Empire that although he didn't want to revisit the character again he thought he owed it to fans to finish the trilogy.

He said, "...Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it's such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it. We were designed to be a trilogy, with a beginning, a middle and an end. We've only done two-thirds, so I feel that we're not really done until we finish it."

Perlman is also known for his other collaborations with del Toro namely 'Cronos', 'Blade II' and 'Pacific Rim'. The 65-year old film and television actor also won a Golden Globe for his role as Vincent in the hit television series 'Beauty and the Beast'.

'Hellboy 3' is intended as a final film in the 'Hellboy' series. Its predecessor 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' earned $160 million against an $85 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. It also starred Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Seth MacFarlane, Luke Goss, Anna Walton and John Hurt.
