‘Kingsman: The Secret Service 2’ Slated for June 2017, Sandwiched Between ‘World War Z 2’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ Release Dates

'Kingsman: The Secret Service 2' is an upcoming follow-up to the first film of the same name starring Colin Firth and Taron Egerton as two spies in a British secret service agency. It is slated for a cinematic debut on June 16, 2017. It opens a week prior to 'Wonder Woman' and a week after 'World War Z 2'.

According to GamesRadar, 20^th Century Fox has announced the much-anticipated release date for the action-comedy sequel for June 16, 2017. Taron Egerton will be reprising his role as main protagonist Gary "Eggsy" Unwin. It is unclear whether any of the former cast members will be joining him as well.

Another article from /Film reported that the film's predecessor grossed $413 million against an $81 million budget. It received generally positive reviews and became director Matthew Vaughn's most successful venture to date. The sequel will also see the return of screenwriter Jane Goldman.

Vaughn is the genius behind several blockbuster films in the past including 2007's 'Stardust' where he won the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation - Long Form, 2010's 'Kick-Ass' where he was nominated for several accolades including an Empire Award for Best Director, 2011's 'X-Men: First Class' where he was nominated for a Scream Award for Best Director. One of his earliest masterpieces was 'Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels' released in 1998 where he was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best British Film.

According to Collider, Vaughn's sequel will open on the same weekend as 'Cars 3'. 'Kingsman: The Secret Service 2' will be a week ahead of the 'Wonder Woman' cinematic release and a week behind the 'World War Z 2' debut. Despite being wedged in between potential blockbuster hits, 20^th Century Fox doesn't seem the least bit intimidated by the tight scheduling for summer season as long as they stick to the original content that made the first film a success.

'Kingsman: The Secret Service 2' is a planned spy film based on the comic books created by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar. The preceding film's plot followed the recruitment of young Londoner Eggsy into a secret spy organization. He then becomes involved in a mission to fight against a global threat.
