'Star Trek Beyond' may have a surprise cameo from football legend Carlo Ancelotti. William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk in the series, indulges in some friendly competition over at Twitter. He didn't seem too pleased over J.J. Abrams' new 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' trailer and called his own series "far superior".
According to WhatCulture, Carlo Ancelotti may make a surprise cameo in the upcoming sequel to 2013's 'Star Trek Into Darkness'. The 56-year old Italian football manager and former football champion is well known as one of the best and most respected managers in the history of the game. He has worked for clubs such as Real Madrid, Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
The football boss seems to be making a move into Hollywood as he will be appearing in 'Star Trek Beyond' as a doctor on board a spacecraft. According to the Daily Mail, his close friendship with actress Zoe Saldana may have helped in him landing the bombshell of a cameo. Saldana plays Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, a human Starfleet Officer who serves as a communications officer aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Chris Pine takes the lead role as the renowned captain of the starship USS Enterprise. Captain Kirk is well-known for taking his crew "where no man has ever gone before". The original series featured Canadian actor, filmmaker and comedian William Shatner where he gained worldwide fame and an iconic status in popular culture.
According to Newsweek, Shatner recently took to Twitter to mock science-fiction adversary 'Star Wars' by posting "Those that can; do Star Trek. Those that can't; do SWs." He also told reporters, "To me there isn't a controversy... Star Trek is far superior to Star Wars."
His comments allegedly came after the official trailer for J.J. Abrams' 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' debuted making it apparent that he is staying loyal to the 'Star Trek' franchise even after his first appearance as Captain Kirk in the 1966 broadcast. He added that Twitter is a "battlefield" that gave no chance to "peaceful negotiations".
'Star Trek Beyond' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film intended as the third installment in the rebooted cinematic series. It is directed by Justin Lin and scheduled to be released on July 22, 2016. It stars Idris Elba, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban among others.
