Microsoft is reportedly to combine both its Outlook and Sunrise applications for iOS and Android. The Redmond-based company has announced the merging of the two applications to create a beautiful and better user experience.
The merger of Outlook and Sunrise applications has already started to roll out. Thus, users must see the changes already. However, the update is only focused for the iOS users in the meantime. On the other hand, the Android users are expected to have it a bit later, sometime in November.
The Outlook, formerly known as Accompli, is an email application that has been acquired by Microsoft last year, while the Sunrise is a calendar application that was obtained this year. It is said that these two applications will be combined to have a more improved Outlook version. However, the features of Sunrise are not yet available. The company is still fixing the design of the whole Outlook application for iOS as well as enhancing navigation in the calendar.
According to The Verge, the update brings small but useful features, including visual cues and date on the calendar button. To provide more information, the calendar event details has been fixed as well. A major patch up will also be offered for the Outlook for Android, but won't be accessible just yet.
Pierre Valade, Microsoft's Director of Product for Outlook Mobile, states that they are going to discontinue the Sunrise application. Since they are going to carry all its best features to the new Outlook application, the Sunrise needs to disappear eventually. But they will give the users ample time to complete the switch.
Furthermore, the company is also working on future updates to the Outlook application. A 3D touch technology might be one of those updates that users will be seeing any time soon. Hence, there is no exact date as to when the Sunrise will be removed. It will still be available after the Outlook has been integrated fully its features.
Overall, the merger of Microsoft Outlook and Sunrise applications will help all users manage both their personal and professional life from a single, powerful application. Nonetheless, go to App Store now and download the revamped Outlook for iOS application.
