Meizu MX5 users will finally receive the first stable version of the company's own Flyme 5.0 Android update. The update can be downloaded over-the-air (OTA).
When the handset was launched earlier this year, it ran the Flyme 4.5 software out of the box. It was based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update from Google.
The update's name is the Flyme 5.0.0.1A, according to NDTV. It is specifically intended to bring a stable version for the Meizu MX5 smartphones.
New updates always bring improvements and upgrades. Some of the features include changes in the Lock Screen, Browser and even the notifications.
However, not every Meizu MX5 user will be able to upgrade. The new Flyme 5.0.0.1A update is available only for the China version of the phones.
International versions can still upgrade the phone via flashing. It is recommended that only experienced Android users do this.
The OTA zip file can be downloaded from their website. It can then be flashed using a recovery loader. Backups are always advised to be made before flashing the update.
There is a reason why the update is only for China users only. Several apps exclusive for Chinese users are included in the update, which may not make sense for international users.
Other new features include a weather search 4 x 2 widget, according to Tech2. There is also a new tool box app and a new home search bar.
Meizu MX5 users may want to charge the phone first before updating. The update is about 940MB in size and it may take a long time.
In addition, the servers seem to be overloaded by everyone who wants to download the update. It is recommended to download the update via Wi-Fi, but it could still take hours, according to UberGizmo.
Meizu's new Flyme 5.0 update for MX5 users will undoubtedly add more features. However, other phones have no release dates yet on when the update will reach them.
