Sony is rolling out the first over-the-air (OTA) update for the Xperia Z3 devices that are currently running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow concept build.
Only the lucky participants who managed to grab an available space for the program would be able to receive the update. The update includes new features that will be added to the device.
Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact users who are under the concept Android 6.0 Marshmallow testing program can download the first OTA update. Some of the features include tap-to-wake, MIDI support and higher bitrates for FLAC playback, according to Phone Arena.
This means that users could probably use third-party USB MIDI controllers on Sony's smartphone. There are small-sized musical keyboards with 25 keys that could be carried around.
Tap-to-wake is also a welcome feature. This reduces the damage done on the power button of the Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact as the user would only need to tap the screen to wake it up.
Sony said that the features will slowly be added to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for their devices. They are testing it slowly but surely before the global rollout of the official update.
The earliest estimation for the release date of the updates could be in January 2016, according to International Business Times. Besides the Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact, there are also other rumored devices that will receive the new version.
Some of them include the Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia C4, Xperia M4 Aqua and the Xperia Z4 Tablet. However, there have been no confirmations from the Japanese conglomerate so far.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will no doubt fit well on Sony's Xperia Z3. It has a 5.2-inch FHD screen with the trilminous panel, according to Neurogadget. At the time of its launch, it ran the Android 4.4 KitKat version.
Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact users will have to download the OTA update to experience the new features. The official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update may not be far behind.
