The long-running Alien franchise is moving forward with Alien 5 and director Neill Blomkamp recently teased a photo of one of the weapons to be featured in the film. Ridley Scott also revealed his long term plans for a tie between Prometheus and Alien franchises.
With Ridley Scott's upcoming Prometheus 2 already set for a January 2016 filming start date in Australia, many have started wondering on the state of Blomkamp's Alien 5 flick. Thus recently as reported by Collider, Blomkamp posted a photo of a riffle in his Instagram account.
However, the director also added that the riffle will have an RIS which means it can attach several accessories to the weapon. "We all knew there would be pulse rifles. Obviously. Now with added RIS", Blomkamp wrote in the caption.
Plot details for the project are currently under wraps, but as cited by Movie News Guide, the director also previously revealed that the upcoming Alien 5 feature will be closer to Scott's ''Alien'' and James Cameron's "Aliens".
Moreover, Scott also confirmed that the notoriously close link between the Alien and Prometheus franchise will eventually be sealed in the future instalments of the latter. However, as reported by Movie Pilot, Scott said that the connection will not be made in the forthcoming Prometheus 2.
"Yes, but it won't be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise... The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself", Scott said.
Sigourney Weaver is expected to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley while Michael Biehn is heavily linked to return as Dwayne Hicks. Alien 5 is set to be produced by Blomkamp, Scott, Walter Hill, and David Giler. More details about film are expected to be revealed when production makes progress.
