Samsung Galaxy S5 units under US Cellular will be hitting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software through tests as the development phase wraps up in October. Considered the biggest upgrade in Android history, Marshmallow will bring in notable refinements for the Galaxy S5.
US Cellular is reported heading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow update tests for its Samsung Galaxy S5 units. Per official list of Samsung, testing will begin in the final quarter of 2015 since official release is already slated in the first quarter of 2016.
In the testing stage, the device will undergo a certification process wherein evaluation of Marshmallow's performance will be conducted to ensure the best out of the new software. If Marshmallow in tests will be pronounced ready, official release will come. According to Samsung, this will begin in the first quarter of 2016.
Previous reports have it already since September that January is the date of release. However, final release of the upgrade to US Cellular's Galaxy s5 units will be up to the mobile network.
Samsung Galaxy S5 units of US Cellular have model number SM-G900R4. All of the carrier's units are still running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software version.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is regarded as the most polished software Google has launched in history. It offers several improvements in system process and management.
Meanwhile, one of the most notable new features it brought in is the power saver called Doze. The new feature promises to improve battery life by manipulating apps running in the background as well as the idle ones.
Doze also watches over how the device is being utilized and manages app activity accordingly. When an app is idle, the power saver will automatically pause it from running in the background so they do not consume battery.
In another news, it remains uncertain until whether or not US Cellular will release the final Lollipop version to the device.
