Samsung Galaxy S5 seems to have been left off in the Android updates as most units still run the 5.0 version of Lollipop yet. While T-Mobile and AT&T have already been keeping updates in the loop, US Cellular is slated to release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its units of Samsung Galaxy S5 beginning this month.
Following the latest release of AT&T last month, US Cellular is making up as it is planning to release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version on Galaxy S5 phones. According to recent news, Samsung has already confirmed to release the latest Android software in the first quarter of 2016.
Previous news already told that Samsung's s smartphones will be receiving the Lollipop update before the Android 6.0 Marshmallow releases. Aside from US Cellular, Sprint and Verizon Wireless have not rolled out the update as well.
Meanwhile, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings new features and enhancements in Material Design, more notification controls, device sharing, and device syncing.
1. Material Design is more colorful with more fluid movements. Along with improved apps, the user interface also brings more customization choices in colors, widgets and themes.
2. Syncing setting, apps, song, videos, photos, recent searches and other data from one Android device can be accessed fully across all other Android devices.
3. Sharing device is made more convenient and more secure with guest user mode. Make two or more user accounts for friends and family to use to prevent them from intruding personal files. With the aid of Android Smart Lock, owners can also securely pair device with another trusted wearable device, car, etc.
4. The new notification controls include adjusting settings to screen people and notifications to get through. Users also have the privilege to directly reply to messages, emails, notifications, etc. from the lock screen.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come via firmware over-the-air (FOTA) release and in stages; it may take to some units on a later date. If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
