It will take a while before viewers can watch duo Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson for Sherlock Season 4 which is bound to return on January 2017. A darker and daunting Sherlock Season 4 is to be anticipated with a potential death of Mary Watson. To fill in for the long wait of Sherlock Season 4, a Sherlock special entitled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is set to air in early 2016.
It has been confirmed that the British crime series Sherlock Season 4 will start filming in April of 2016, Independent shared. As for other details regarding the filming, executive producer and writer Steven Moffat was careful on sharing details. But Moffat assured fans that Season 4 will be more serious and devastating as same time humorous compared to the preceding seasons of Sherlock.
An interview with Steven Moffat by Entertainment Weekly revealed that the forthcoming season of the series will be "frightening" and may even include character deaths. If the creative team decides to remain organic to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's texts, Mary Watson (Amanda Abbington) has to be killed off the show. Season 4 will also shed light on parenting abilities of Mary and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman).
As for new characters, Moffat said the team is still undecided on characters to include and the actors to cast for Season 4. Moffat further added the show targets to launch careers of new talents as what the series did to Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Sherlock, Andrew Scott as Jim Moriarty, and Lara Pulver who plays Irene Adler.
Traditionally, Sherlock premieres every January of the year but the show will have a different spin for 2016. The Victorian era special of Sherlock entitled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride will fill in for 1 January 2016 on PBS. The 90-minute special is in reference to Conan Doyle's short story The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle.
As for the Sherlock special, Sherlock and Dr. Watson will extra unique as the characters will be more polished in contrast to their modern versions, International Business Times published. Cast for the Sherlock special includes Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper, Jonathan Aris as Anderson, Tim McInnerny as Sir Edward, Una Stubbs, and Rupert Graves
Sherlock is scheduled to air its fourth season on January 2017 on PBS.
