Dominic Toretto and the gang are set for another round of action in the upcoming Furious 8. Vin Diesel confirmed that the sequel will go back to the roots of the franchise, while plot rumors suggest that it could also feature the return of Jordana Brewster's Mia Toretto and Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor.
A new trilogy is set for the long-running franchise, and as reported by Master Herald, Diesel confirmed that it will be like the first film. Michelle Rodriguez also supported Diesel's statement in a separate interview and said that it will return to its core which is car racing.
According to Rodriguez, the idea for the plot came from Paul Walker who wanted to return to the main feature of the first film and often complained about the the blue screens. Fast And Furious 8 will be the start of a franchise that will serve as a tribute to Walker.
Moreover, while plot details for the film are scarce, Australia Network News reported that it could feature the return of Dominic Toretto's younger sister, Mia. Rumor mill suggest that Mia's return will also include an appearance of Paul Walker as Brian O'Connor which will be done through CGI.
However, in a recent interview, Brewster said that she still doesn't know if her character will return but also added that Mia's return will depend on the fans. "I don't know [if I'd do another film], but it's always dependent on the fans. If they want one and if there's an appetite for it. We never want to jump the shark!", she said.
As reported by Movie News Guide, producer Neal H. Moritz confirmed that the forthcoming project will largely center on the characters. "Unfortunately, we don't have Paul anymore. His character... has moved on. But we feel like there's a lot still to be mined. That's where we're starting. We're really talking about the characters, where they all sit right now. It's a huge challenge.", Moritz said.
Aside from Diesel and Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson is also set to reprise his role as Hobbs as well as Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. Furious 8 is set to be directed by T. Gary Gray, and slated to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
