Xiaomi will launch the Redmi Note 2 and Mi4 smartphones in Africa in mid-November. Xiaomi is currently expanding its market in other countries but the U.S. market still remains closed for the Chinese phone manufacturer.
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi will release its handsets for the first time in Africa, particularly in South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya. GSMArena reported that Xiaomi will launch its Redmi Note 2 and Mi4 smartphones in the African region.
Raymond Tian, Xiaomi's Director for Global Strategy, said, "We see Africa as the next frontier for smartphone growth and we are excited to be partnering with MIA Group to offer consumers in these three countries our high-quality smartphones at amazing prices." Xiaomi's devices are expected to come to Africa in mid-November of 2015.
Xiaomi will be working with the Mobile in Africa (MIA) Group in marketing its devices to African countries. The MIA Group is a full-service distributor that provides marketing services in 14 countries in Africa.
Xiaomi has not yet announced prices for the phones. However, it is reported that the devices will be offered at low-cost prices. MIA Group President RJ van Spaandonk said, "We've seen a strong response to the products based on preliminary discussions with partners, and we look forward to providing consumers with these new high-end smartphone options at incredible price points".
iDigitalTimes reported that Xiaomi is currently expanding its market in other countries, though it could still take a long time for the company to enter the U.S. market. Considering the tough competition it faces from Huawei, it comes as no surprise that Xiaomi will want to reach out to more customers.
Smartphones produced by Xiaomi are popular due to their premium features and affordable prices. Footprint to Africa Media reported that Xiaomi is considered as the "Apple of the East". The Chinese device maker mainly targets Asian countries like China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
In 2014, Xiaomi was dubbed as China's top manufacturer. However, Huawei toppled Xiaomi's dominance in China this 2015. Yet, the International Data Corporation said that Xiaomi is currently the third largest phone manufacturer in the world after Apple and Samsung.
