Often ridiculed in the open world gaming system, Ubisoft still managed to entertain the gaming community with its Far Cry series. Far Cry Primal, its latest installment, offers a different setup featuring a prehistoric world, along with primitive weapons which, according to many, may just win the gaming industry's respect for open world games.
Having set in prehistoric times, Far Cry Primal is expected to offer extremely basic weaponry and is focused more on crafting, simple combat, and survival. For years, Far Cry has entertained gamers with its sophisticated weapons. With Primal, however, the advanced weapons and explosives are now gone. Such move of the developers has brought Far Cry to its most basic elements which, as commented by International Business Times, may be a good thing, as it gives the chance to improve the game's fundamentals. Having engineered the relationship between the player and the world to something where power is not unevenly distributed, the game features a situation where the hunted may turn out to be the hunter. If the game shall fulfill its initial promises, then Ubisoft might have learned about open world gaming.
On the other hand, Red Bull made a list of things needed to be present in Far Cry Primal in order for the game to 'survive'. These include a full crafting system, an Era-appropriate navigation, Mammoth riding, focus and momentum, likable protagonist, diverse weaponry, a meaningful daylight cycle, and a mission variety. With these eight things, the site opined that Ubisoft may 'survive the harsh, unforgiving climate of the release window', referring to the competition in the industry.
Meanwhile, an official Far Cry Primal fan kit was recently made available for download, according to Games Radar. This was announced last October 13 through Far Cry's official Twitter account. The kit features two new creatures during the prehistoric era, along with a several new views of the prehistoric culture.
Will Ubisoft finally gain respect in the open world gaming community? Is Far Cry Primal Ubisoft's ace in the open world genre? We will find out on Far Cry Primal's release on February 23, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One. A PC release will follow on March.
