With the success of Last of Us released on 2013, fans have been wondering on a possible game sequel. Along with the longing, speculations on the preferred or possible plot have been surfacing within the fan community. Such rumors include that Joel may have been infected by a fungus and has to be killed, leaving Ellie on her own.
Developed by Naughty Dog and released by Sony on 2013, Last of Us have secured a fan base due to its engaging plot. Recently, a speculation about a sequel of the horror-survival game started after a hint from Nolan North, one of the game's voice talents. Christian Post reports that he hinted a development on a working sequel of the game during Metrocom in Florida. As the first story lined up a man named Joel who escorted a little girl named Ellie across the apocalyptic America, speculations about a possible sequel emerged. Rumors believe that Joel will have been infected by a fungus and hence, has to be killed. This leaves Ellie alone to start a new adventure and would probably meet a new character along the way.
During a Q&A panel, North stated: "I know they're doing a Last of Us 2." Accordingly, Game Director Neil Druckmann also responded to comments that they have arranged small teams to brainstorm ideas and build prototypes relating to a game sequel. However, he explained that such planning was interrupted by their moves for the highly anticipated Uncharted 4 which will be released on March 18, 2016, Crossmap reports. According to one of the game directors, Bruce Straley, they have already brainstormed some ideas for the possible sequel.
Meanwhile, Movie Pilot is of the opinion that Joel and Ellie should not reappear together in a game sequel. The site argued that they love Last of Us in its current form which offers a story which is direct and perfect. Such balance may be upset by a possible plot extension. They also guess that the plot may focus on further exploring the relationship between Joel and Ellie.
To date, no official update about the Last of Us 2's progress has been released. However, fans expect the start of the production by 2016. Stay tuned for more news about Last of Us 2.
