Season 1 of "Mr. Robot" stood out from the rest of USA Network's programs with its non-traditional structure and format that was innately grim in tone. With themes of murders, cyber terrorism, drug addiction and mental health, the series is far from a fun adventure that other shows promise. Yet, "Mr. Robot" was the surprise hit of this summer's tv season. It is not surprising then that the same approach will extend to its second season.
The unique style, strong acting and guessing-game plot are the main reasons critics gave the first season glowing reviews. Audiences all over seem to agree as it garnered an impressive 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
"Mr. Robot" Season 1 ended with Elliot (Rami Malek) learning that Mr. Robot ( Christian Slater) is his father and a figment of his imagination reports HNGN. He also happens to be the leader of the cyber terrorism group FSociety. Yet, Elliot's cracked psyche is just the start of the good staff according to showrunner and creator Sam Esmail.
Esmail further revealed that "Mr. Robot" was originally conceived as a film. "It is about what happens after Elliot discovers that Mr. Robot is a deeper, alter ego. We're staying on track in regards to what the end of the movie would be," Esmail said at Paley Fest in New York City.
Christian Post reports that if the viewers found season 1 to be dark, the coming season will explore a darker story and will go to a deeper direction. Elliot's mental situation will worsen together with the unfolding of the revolution.
In the same New York City panel with some members of thecast, Esmail revealed that Angela (Portia Doubleday) and Elliot's complicated love story will be explored further in "Mr. Robot" Season 2 reports Huffington Post. He did not divulge more details but said that their love story is something fans will need to watch out for.
There is no official date yet on the "Mr. Robot" Season 2 premiere but it will most likely be in the summer of 2016 if the premiere of the last season will be followed.
