Man of Steel 2 Update:George Miller not returning as director; David Goyer defends Superman's decision to kill Zod

While critics were divided on Kal-El's first outing in the DC Extended Universe, Warner Bros is eyeing on a possible Man of Steel 2. Director George Miller admitted that he's not interest to helm the project while David Goyer also explained Superman's decision to kill Zod.

Superman's first outing in the DCEU did not earn entirely positive reviews, but it also brought home a decent $600 million in the box office which caused queries why a sequel was not immediately announced.

Moreover, according to Screen Rant, director George Miller confirmed that he had talks with Warner Bros/DC for a possible sequel. However, he clarified that he is not interest to take the director's chair saying that he wants to focus more on smaller films for some time. "I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts", Miller said.

No release date has been slated for Man of Steel 2 which could imply that it will not be released anytime soon. Also, as reported by Movie Pilot, the studio's schedule of solo films seem to be more focused on extending the universe by releasing films for other Justice League members than providing sequels.

Meanwhile, writer David Goyer also defended one of the most controversial scenes in Man of Steel specifically Superman's killing of General Zod. As reported by Game Spot, Goyer said that they did what they felt was right for the right for the story.

Goyer explained that killing Zod was not what Superman wanted, but rather what he had to do. He also noted Superman's lack of experience in handling his powers, and Zod's knowledge and skills. "He wasn't Superman as we think of him in the DC Comics, or even in a world that conceived of Superman existing. He'd only flown for the first time a few days before that. He'd never fought anyone that had super powers before", he said.

"And so he's going up against a guy who's not only super-powered, but has been training since birth to use those super powers, who exists as a superhuman killing machine, who has stated, 'I will never stop until I destroy all of humanity.'", Goyer added.

Superman's next outing in the DCEU will be in the fortcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which director Zack Snyder said could serve as Man of Steel 2. Details are currently scarce on the latter but more information will be revealed when production makes progress for the project.
