Almost immediately after the release of "Narcos" Season 1, Netflix already announced that it is renewing the series for a Season 2. The renewal was a welcome news to the show's fans who were immediately hooked and binge-watched the series.
"Narcos" tells the real-life story of the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar from when he started his cocaine trade until he eventually established his multi-billion dollar drug cartel that made him one of the wealthiest men in the world. Season 1 covered the years from 1989 to 1992 when Escobar escaped from his prison he named La Catedral.
It is interesting to note that "Narcos" may only have a two season run due to the fast pacing of Season 1 which covered almost two decades of the drug kingpin's reign. Season 2 will most likely be covering the life of Escobar from his escape in 1992 until his death in the latter part of 1993. There will only be a little more than a year of his life that can be used as source material for the show.
With Escobar's fate pretty much sealed in "Narcos" Season 2, there are a lot of speculations that Netflix will look into the life stories of the other heads of cartels that rose to power after his death. It is a known fact that although Escobar's Medellin Cartel controlled about 80% of the cocaine trade, they were not without rivals reports Crossmap. One of the most prominent was the Cali Cartel who was also behind the vigilante group Los Pepes that helped in the manhunt for Escobar.
iDigital Times reports on the speculation that "Narcos" Season 2 might have a late summer release or August 2016 to be more specific as this coincides with the previous programming schedule of Netflix. It would also seem that next season will be more about the manhunt for Escobar. The addition of Eric Lange to play the role of a CIA agent firms up this speculation.
Will Season 2 be the end for "Narcos"? For now, fans can only speculate and wait for any update on the fate of their favorite series.
