United Nations Agent Gerry Lane is bound to return for another zombie adventure in the upcoming World War Z 2. Dennis Kelly is officially on board to write the latest draft for the film, while director J.A. Bayona is still on board despite being courted for another project.

British writer Dennis Kelly was recently confirmed to write the latest draft for the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He is set to work on a new draft from an earlier work by Steven Knight. Kelly previously worked on Matilda the Musical as well as Utopia tv series for Channel 4.

Moreover, director J.A. Bayona remains attached to the project despite being courted for Jurassic World 2. According to /Film, the director couldn't accept the project since he has a deal for World War Z 2. But latest rumors also indicate that the incident sparked fire in Paramount that they've decided to keep Bayona happy. These measures reportedly included hiring a 'fanboy-friendly writer' for the film.

Official plot details for the film are currently undisclosed although it was previously revealed that it will be different than the previous film. According to Cinema Blend, it is possible that the sequel will adapt more stories from the source.

The World War Z went through a rough production, with the initial third act totally scrapped after it proved to have post some issues during their test screening. It consequently required major rewrites and reshoots. However, despite the changes, the film still managed to produce a coherent story for the characters.

Brad Pitt is expected to reprise his role as Gerry Lane in World War Z 2 which is set to be directed by Bayona. He is set to produce the film with Jeremy Kleiner, David Ellison, and Dede Gardner. The project is currently slated to hit theaters on June 09, 2017.
