Bioware announced that the upcoming game in the Mass Effect series will only allow fans to choose a human character for story purposes. This is despite of having dozens of alien races in the Mass Effect world.
While some might think that this decision to limit the game with only human protagonist is to shorten the development time or avoid other technical issues, Inquisitr reported that the game Mass Effect focuses on a human character for story reasons alone.
BioWare's Edmonton and Montreal studios general manager, Aaryn Flynn, briefly talked about the topic with fans on Twitter. Flynn made it clear that the decision to put the focus of Mass Effect: Andromeda on human-only main character is to help players connect easily with the narrative theme of the title, which is characterized as a "human" story.
In another report from Game Ranx, Flynn was asked about the chance of having a game where players could only play an alien role. He replied by saying, "I'd play that too but that's a different story & deserves its own experience."
The report also recalled the Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, where players are allowed to play using another species, while other BioWare games provided more choice in race as there are 11 races made available for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
In the Dragon Age Origins game, users are allowed to play as an elf, human, or dwarf, where Dragon Age Inquisition also added the qunari as one of the playable race. However, players can only play as a man or woman in Andromeda for specific reasons explained by the game developers.
The 'Mass Effect 4: Andromeda' will also introduce new maps and characters, said Cross Map. A new and improved Mako is said to be expected in the game as well.
This announcement is not a big surprise for many fans of the game. They seem to be familiar on Mass Effect: Andromeda's story and they are prepared to play human protagonist.
