The full trailer of the new Warcraft movie was finally released last Friday at Blizzcon 2015. Fans have been raving about it since the 15-second sneak peek was released a couple of days prior. The trailer gives fans a first look on the dark portal, the city of Stormwind, Dalaran floating in the sky and a lot of other geographic areas that gives the idea of how immense the realm of Azeroth is.
Present at the event is director Duncan Jones. In an interview with BBC, he states that the movie is a war story that is going to be told from both sides. According to the acclaimed director, they made the film in such a way that both sides can be empathized with.
This might just be a brilliant approach since most war movies are all about the battle between good and evil. Jones' team may just be delivering something new to the audience.
For Warcraft players though, especially those who played the original real time strategy game back in the 90's, this basically what the gameplay is - players get to control both sides in their respective campaigns.
Jones in full confidence stated the movie will not disappoint. He said in the same interview that he is familiar with the history of games being adapted into the big screen. His advantage, according to him, as a director is that he is from a generation who actually plays games which gives him certain sensitivity in that aspect.
With respect to Duncan Jones, he is one of those who were able to play the original game 2 decades ago.
What is notable about the trailer, which is available in the Legendary site, are the geographic locations, costumes and overall theme is how faithful Jones has been to the game. The costume design alone gives a vibe on how one would feel watching a WarCraft game cinematic.
ComingSoon reports some of the cast shared the experiences they had while filming the movie at BlizzCon last Friday. Dominic Cooper who plays King Lane Wrynn noted the elaborate physical sets and costumes that got them more immersed in the roles. Paula Patton, the half-orc half human Garona praised how Duncan Jones was able to always remind them of the scale between humans and orcs which helped them in the acting part. Toby Kebbel, who is the co-protagonist Durotan shares how helpful the director was with the acting part especially since Kebbel was doing mostly motion capture in the movie.
From the looks of it, even the actors are convinced that Duncan Jones has done a great job with this movie. "Warcraft" was produced in such a massive scale and in close coordination with game developer Blizzard. With a director having played the game and growing up as a gamer himself, fans can expect that this movie might indeed live up to the hype and not disappoint like most from the game to movie genre.
"Warcraft" movie is set to premiere on June 10, 2016.
