'Rick and Morty' Season 3 Update: A Look Into Beth’s Backstory; Possible Crossover Episode With 'Gravity Falls'

By

The third installment for "Rick and Morty" isn't coming any sooner, yet there have been rumors spreading around about what's in store for the fans like a storyline about Beth Smith and a possible crossover episode with Gravity Falls.

A report from Movie Pilot revealed that the two universes surrounding Rick and Morty and Gravity Falls are actually related. It is because the show's creators Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) are have worked together in the same Disney Channel office earlier in their careers.

It is said that "the theory that the two universes are related however extends beyond the friendship of their creators and the general sci-fi "weirdness" that forms the backbone of each show's mythology, as eagle eyed fans have noticed direct references passed between the two."

These two direct references pertained to Grunkle Stan's notepad and mug falling off a portal and later went to the other side, which is Rick and Morty's universe. The other was Gravity Falls' dream demon antagonist shaped like a pyramid with one eye and a hat, which appeared in a Rick and Morty episode called Big Trouble in Little Sanchez, in which Gravity Falls' creator Alex Hirsch guested.

Meanwhile, another important character in the series will likely have her own storyline. In a post from Yibada, Beth Smith, the beloved daughter of Rick and mother of Morty, is the character that is behind Rick and his grandson's weird space adventures according to co-creator Dan Harmon.

"I was like, "Why would that be the case? Why would any parents let this crazy man disappear through clearly dangerous portals with their son?" And after talking about it with Justin for a while, I realised the most important thing about that show for me, which is that Rick left at one point in Beth's childhood and Beth blamed her mother for Rick's absence," Harmon said.

According to Christian Post, the season two finale with Rick's departure left Beth very unhappy and Harmon is expected to explore more on her character.

There is no specific date yet for "Rick and Morty" Season 3.
