"Dancing With the Stars" Season 21 Alum Alexa PenaVega recently opened up about suffering from an eating disorder when she was younger. She shares how she suffered and overcame the disorder.
Last Monday night on an episode of "Dancing With the Stars," Alum Alexa PenaVega just got eliminated from the show, while her husband, Carlos PenaVega, continuously competes on the show. During that episode, the actress opened up about having suffered from an eating disorder called Bulimia for 6 years. According to Entertainment Tonight, she suffered from the disorder starting at the age of 15 until she was 21. The actress stated that she kept that part of her life from the public as she does not want to be associated with the disorder.
She is however proud of herself and what she has overcome. At the time that she suffered from bulimia, she felt that she didn't have any choice but to go through extreme measures to get rid of some weight. "I struggled with bulimia. This was a part of my life I was scared to have people find out," she told her professional dance partner, Mark Ballas, as reported by Yibada. She believed that it was time she let out that information about herself. Her husband also feels that she can inspire people with what she has overcome, and that she can finally let it go.
Perez Hilton reported that she started suffering from Bulimia when a producer said she was too fat. Alexa stated how hard it was to get through Bulimia, as it was not as easy as it is presented in books. She struggled because she knew she had to get rid of it but found it hard, since in a strange way, she enjoyed it at some point. She explained how the show has given her so much confidence, making it comfortable for her to open up about her past.
The actress has definitely taken a huge step in her life as she opened up about her past disorder in order to help others who might be going through it also. She is now proud to have overcome such tragedy.
