'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 2: Will the kids be alright?

By

The first season of the zombie drama spin-off, "Fear the Walking Dead," introduced a dysfunctional family now facing a dysfunctional world. By the end of the season, the main problem wasn't just the current zombie epidemic plaguing humankind. The problem was among themselves - the family - and the younger characters are the ones suffering the most.

As recalled in the finale, Liza, Chris' mother and Travis' ex-wife, was bitten by a walker. She asked Madison, now Travis' wife, to be the one to shoot her so she won't turn. Instead, Travis did it himself. He pulled the trigger on his ex-wife as he realized it was the humane thing to do. But what will happen to Chris? What will he feel about his father shooting his mother? And how will he live without Liza? In the next season, "FTWD" showrunner, Dave Erickson, shared in an interview that there will be an incredible weight between Chris and Travis' relationship. "It's going to spin Chris off the planet a bit," he says.

Aside from the father and son relationship going to a downward spiral, there's another rising tension on the other side of the boat. Ofelia's perception of her father seemed to have sunk to the bottom of the ocean after his big revelation to his daughter last season. Ofelia feels that her father had lied to her all her life, thinking he was one of the good guys. But Daniel confessed, after torturing her supposed "boyfriend", that he was one of the "bad guys" after all. Though, he still explained that he needed to do some of those terrible things to survive during the war. With Ofelia's mother gone, will she ever forgive and accept her father for who he really is?

Finally, what about the Clark siblings, Nick and Alicia? Viewers all know that Nick is having withdrawals from his heroin addiction. Will Nick be able to cope with his condition at sea? With Strand's idea of getting on a boat to escape the zombie outbreak, will this do Nick any good? And if his withdrawal symptoms worsen, what will happen to his relationship with his sister and mother? For sure, Madison doesn't want to see her son suffer. Will they be safer on land given Nick's current state?

In the world of "The Walking Dead," fans have seen characters rise above whatever comes at them like Rick Grimes and his group of survivors. Though some had let the zombie-infested world drag them down. Who among the survivors in "Fear" will rise above despite the emerging personal conflicts in the first season?

Find out in Season 2 of AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" which will premiere sometime in 2016.
