AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" is now renewed for Season 2 set to be released sometime in 2016. On its first season run, "Fear" garnered the highest first season ratings of any TV series ever in its debut last August with a total of 10.1 million viewers.
The first season had six episodes which ended with the main characters' escape from the military camp that has been overrun with walkers in Los Angeles. The newly introduced character, Strand, brought them to his cliffside home where he plans to escape the zombie apocalypse by going offshore on board his yacht, 'Abigail.' Creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that there will definitely be some scenes to be filmed on water.
In the most recent New York Comic-con, Kirkman shared that the next season will continue right where season one ended. "There's definitely some zombie water action coming up... just because it takes place on the boat doesn't mean they'll be on the boat all the time. It will be a seafaring adventure," he adds.
From the start, fans had always questioned why the survivors never opted to go out to the ocean. People think they just might be safer on water than staying on land. Kirkman thinks otherwise and says viewers will know why on the next installment.
Kirkman says that "there will be plenty of zombies to be had," since a lot of people are already wondering whether they would see less of the undead in the next season. Kirkman also shares that embarking on a seafaring expedition is something that would really set it apart from its mothership series. This will be exciting as fans will see how it will all boil down when it comes to survival.
In another interview, this time with showrunner Dave Erickson, he mentions how the group would eventually discover that they are not the only ones that opted to go nautical. In fact, the whole Walking Dead slogan in the comic can be applied here: "fight the dead, fear the living." The greater threat has always been with humans as survivors go deeper into the apocalypse just as in the original series (though not in most recent events).
Kirkman also shared that "Fear" will explore on the drastic changes that a regular person undergoes entering into the apocalypse. Just as pizza boy Glenn, in the original series, could fire a shotgun and go on life-threatening runs in the outbreak. "How did we get to the point where this pizza boy could do that? So on Fear, we get to see how a regular person like Travis would react to these situations." The Walking Dead creator wanted to show how alien this new world would be for the characters and how each one would slowly adjust to it.
In the meantime, catch Season 6 of the original series, "The Walking Dead", on AMC Sundays, 9PM.
