Director Dean Deblois confirmed that the third installment in the "How to Train your Dragon" franchise will take the fans to where the books begin, where dragons and humans no longer live together. Drago might return but as a complex character and there has been a lot of chatter that Hiccup's mom will somehow be the villain in "How To Train Your Dragon 3"
If the story indeed goes back to the beginning of the books, then fans should expect an all grown up Hiccup, played by Jay Baruchel, reminiscing a time when humans and dragons lived together in Berk. In an article from Movie News Guide, if this storyline is going to be adapted, then it is highly plausible that the war is between the two chiefs of their own kind, Hiccup and Toothless. Some fans even speculate that this may even lead to the extinction of the dragons, which is a bit too dark for the story. What could be more realistic is what Deblois mentioned previously that the ending of the story will be kind of bittersweet.
An interesting report from Parent Herald states that Valka, played by Cate Blanchett, who is Hiccup's mother, may transition into being the villain for the third installment. How and why this happens remains a total mystery. Deblois mentioned in a previous interview though that Valka was really the initial choice to be the villain for the 2nd movie but they decided to use Drago instead.
Talking about Drago Bludvist who is played by Djimon Hounsou, Christian Post reports that Drago may indeed appear in the movie as director Deblois has teased in his interview. Drago will be back as a more complex character this time around. The big question is will he be back as a vengeful antagonist?
In a possible twist of events, if Valka indeed becomes the villain, Drago may play somewhat of a darker villain that orchestrates his acts behind the curtains. This is only based on what Deblois said that the one armed menace will be back as a complex individual.
As of the moment, the initial release date is far off in June 29, 2018, but fans are clamoring that the next and final installment, "How To Train Your Dragon 3" be released much earlier than that.
