Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight Premieres January 2016: 70mm Special Screening Pretty Costly, Comic Book Out Now

By

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight has been one of the much anticipated films and as revealed before it will be released in 70mm in selected theaters. However it was also revealed how costly Tarantino's special screening will be.

Before it hits theaters worldwide, a special screening will be held for Tarantino's feature. It will be released in 70mm in selected 100 theaters, 96 of which will be in the US and 4 in Canada. But according to Vulture, making the event possible was no easy task as Weinstein Company took a year and a half to find projectors suitable for the film as well as projectionists.

The Hateful Eight will be the first after a long time that a film will be released in 100 theaters after 1992. Also, according to Uproxx, the Weinstein also went to hire another company, the Boston Light & Sound for the event.

The film's special screening also took the company a large amount as Kinora's Princial Engineer, Justin Dennis said that it is difficult to set a price for a product no longer manufactured in the market. He also further went on to add that he would have $60,000 to $80,000 per screen for the system while excluding the charges for labor.

The feature is also the first to shoot in Ultra Panavision in recent years. The last film shot in such format was Basil Deaden and Eliot Elisofon's Action flick, Khartoum, in 1966. Meanwhile, as reported by IGN, Tarantino has also released a new comic prequel to the film. The comics was written by Tarantino and illustrated by artist Zach Meyer, and featured the early interactions of Major Marquis Warren, John Ruth, and Daisy Domerque.

The Hateful Eight was written and directed Tarantino. It stars Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Samuel Jackson among many others. It is expected to hit theaters worldwide on January 8, 2016.
