'Transformers 5' is one of the planned films in the series of future cinematic releases in the alien robot franchise. Akiva Goldsman, who heads a team of writers for the project, said that the new releases will be "standalone" films. He also confirmed that the new animated film in the works will serve as the franchise's origin story.
According to IGN, Akiva Goldsman revealed that the new movies will be independent of each other. He said, "Our hope is that they are all interconnected and of course standalone, right? I think architecturally, the best -- I think I believe this -- the best serialized storytelling has integrity from start to finish of the episode, whether it be TV or a movie or comic book or novel series or short story series." Goldsman leads a group of writers recruited for the planning and execution of future films including Ken Nolan of 'Black Hawk Down', Robert Kirkman of 'The Walking Dead' series and Steven DeKnight of 'Daredevil'.
Goldsman also said that despite having no need of any human protagonists, the films would need some valuable human element. He said that the interaction between humans and transformers was essential to the stories as a whole. According to Movie Pilot, a human-less plot was considered for 'Transformers 5' but Paramount eventually scrapped the idea.
Meanwhile, a new animated full-feature is in the works and it is said to be a prequel. Goldsman confirmed that it will be an origin story set before the arrival of Optimus Prime and Megatron on Earth. According to Science Fiction, the film will be penned by 'Ant-Man' collaborators Andrew Barrier and Gabriel Ferrari.
'Transformers 5' is an upcoming film slated to be released some time in 2017. It is part of the planned film series for the future of the franchise. No further details have been released regarding cast, crew and potential plot line.
