The 2002 British post-apocalyptic film may get a sequel sometime in the future. According to MTV, Danny Boyle, who directed the original '28 Days Later' expressed his interest in returning to the director's chair as long as they get a good script going. He said, "It's the usual thing: it's not about whether people think it's a good idea that you're directing. It's whether you respond to the script or not."

According to Den of Geek, the English filmmaker returned as executive producer for the 2007 sequel '28 Weeks Later' with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo replacing him as director. Boyle admitted that he is mulling over the idea of directing a future follow-up. It was reported that acclaimed writer Alex Garland is currently working on a script for '28 Months Later'.

The first horror film was received positively by critics when it first came out and was credited to reviving the zombie genre in contemporary cinema. It was based on a screenplay by Garland and became highly profitable both in the domestic and international box office. It starred Cilian Murphy in the lead role and told the story of a post-apocalyptic society following the events of a viral breakout that left four survivors to endure a life far from what they once knew.

Meanwhile, Boyle announced his plans to direct a sequel for 'Trainspotting' by next summer. According to /Film, the follow-up film will be based on Irvine Welsh's novel 'Porno' and may see the return of leading man Ewan McGregor for Mark "Rent Boy" Renton. The first film was released in 1996 and went on to become a critically acclaimed cult favorite.

Boyle is best known for his work on several film industry gems including '127 Hours', 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'Sunshine' and 'The Beach'. He earned numerous accolades including an Academy Award for Best Director.

'28 Months Later' is a planned post-apocalyptic horror film and is intended to be a follow-up of 2007's '28 Weeks Later'. Garland is currently penning the screenplay with Boyle possibly returning as director. It remains unconfirmed whether any familiar cast members will be returning to their respective roles.
