Iconic entertainer Rowan Atkinson's 24 year of marriage is coming to an end after his wife Sunetra Sastry was granted divorce on basis of his "unreasonable behavior". Ex-wife is reportedly hurt by Atkinson's relationship with a younger woman.
Sastry was granted a decree nisi after 65 seconds against the Atkinson by a district judge at the Central Family Court. Both Atkinson and Sastry were not present at court for the announcement as Daily Mail reports.
The publicized divorce papers did not have any information that relate to the unreasonable behavior ground.
The two however have been reported to have split last year. According to USMagazine, Atkinson has been dating 32-year old comedienne actress Louise Ford for the past 18 months.
A source has told The Sun as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald that Sastry is deeply hurt that she is being replaced for a younger woman.
According to the lawyer of Slater and Gordon Lawyer's firm Andrew Newbury, that the most common basis for divorce is 'unreasonable behaviour'. It is possible, even in the happiest marriages, to find behavior which can be described as unreasonable.
"Although described as granting a divorce, the divorce itself won't be made final until Sunetra Atkinson applies for the decree absolute," Newbury added.
The Mr-Bean actor and Sastry met in the late eighties. Sastry was still working as a make-up artist for the network BBC. Since then the two has had 2 children, 22-year old son Benjamin , and 20-year old daughter Lily.
Atkinson and Ford met in 2013 after appearing together in the West End of London Theater when Atkinson starred in the comic play Quartermaine's Terms.
Sastry will be able to make the divorce permanent after she files a decree absolute after six weeks.
Atkinson is one of Britain's most wealthy entertainers, with a fortune of around £70 million. He is know for his performances such as British icon Mr. Brean, and spoof spy "Johnny English".
