Motorola seems to be already fulfilling its promises to its patrons as the roll out for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Moto X Style and Moto X (2014) is expected in a week. The release of the latest operating system update is slated to commence first in Brazil and India.
According to Latin Post, the Moto X (2014) was the first non-Nexus Android device to obtain the Android 5.0 Lollipop update last year. Now it seems that this handset together with its 2015 3rd generation update, the Moto X Style or Pure Edition in the U.S., will be among the first in line smartphone devices to receive the Android Marshmallow this year.
The preliminary reports about the Android M OTA rollout to be released first in India and Brazil came from Motorola's David Schuster on his Google Plus page. With the announcement made by Schuster, he also commented on the upcoming release date for the Moto X Pure Edition in the U.S.
Furthermore, Neurogadget stated some of the reminders and steps on how to install the Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Moto X series. First of all, the user's device should have at least 50% battery left. This is to make sure that the phone will not shut down during the installation process as it may be harmful to device. They also have to make sure that they are connected to a secured Wi-Fi network before they start the downloading process, to not waste any mobile data.
As for the steps on installation here's how: once the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update is available for the owners of Moto X device, they will receive a notification. What the users have to do is to select "Yes, I'm in" and the downloading process of the latest Android OS will start. Once the software is downloaded, user of the handsets will have to choose "Install now" and when the installation process has been completed, their smartphone will automatically restart.
International Business Times reported the official change-log that the Moto X series is expected to encounter upon installation of Android M. One of which is the Doze mode that will prolong the battery life of the handset. Another is the App Standby that reduces the battery drain of the handset by putting the seldom-used apps into a reduced activity state. The App permission which will help users to have more power on their applications is also included. Apart from that, Android Marshmallow will also let the users decide what will be the right action for each of their apps when they tap a web link -an enhancement called App Links.
Along with the Android M update, the expandable storage of the Moto X series is also enhanced as it will be able to fully extend the device's internal storage rather than just being used for media files. Upon updating to the new OS, users now easily configure interruptions by tapping the 'Do not disturb' button in the quick settings panel. The volume controls is also said to have been improved and the device will also have access to Now on Tap.
Direct Share will also be experienced on the Moto X Style and Moto X (2014), wherein users can directly share something to their contacts. Moreover, the Ambient Display has been removed and changed to Moto Display; the Moto Assist, Motorola Migrate and Attentive Display will also be observed as new features added.
While the upgrade of the Moto X Style and Moto X (2014) to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is slated to happen in a week, more handsets are expected to follow. For now, users have to be patient as the upgrade will be over-the-air rollout and the release may still vary on the area they live.
